Annotation

The long-term results of the study of erosion-accumulative processes are analyzed. There is given a substantiation of the necessity to distinguish between ancient and modern (anthropogenic) erosion, connections of ancient erosion with the activities of glaciers during the glacial phase; to consider the role of woody and herbaceous vegetation in the development of erosion-hydrological process and a leading role in the erosion-accumulative process of plane erosion compared with the gully erosion. The original theory of relief formation was created. It shows that the modern relief is the result of a single erosion-accumulative process. It describes the process of formation of slopes and cover loess rocks. It sets out the Genesis of loess deposits, gives a scientific basis for the formation of forest-steppe vegetation and soils and it is justified by the lithological structure of soils. Their confinement to different areas can be explained by different water content of layered heterogeneous lithological and powerful more homogeneous strata. The shape of the slopes formed as a result of evolution in the course of the erosion-accumulative process is an adequate expression of this process and is expressed by the logistic equation. New theoretical principles are set out that change our understanding about the patterns of erosion and hydrological processes, the law is formulated regarding limiting factors of the spring runoff, there is given a technique of the forecast providing calculation of the runoff from agricultural lands with a high accuracy 80-100%. This makes it possible to more correctly assess the situation before the spring fl ood and take measures to regulate it.
